The final days of the cultural exchange were filled with many emotions – joy,
anticipation, determination, and a little bit of sadness. As the choristers of the Wilmington Children’s Chorus and the orchestra members of the Kammerorchester der
Jugend Fulda prepared for their final concert, they were aware that the last performance also meant
saying goodbye to close friends. Their bonds only heightened their performance energy, as was evident in their culminating concert Saturday evening, July 29.The diverse repertoire, beautiful tone, attention to detail, and clear kinship between both organizations made for an evening of musical excellence. The ice-cream social that followed made for an evening of fun! It was the German’s last night in Delaware -as the next day they set off for New York City. The choristers clung to their new friends as they said goodbye to each other in Rodney Square, and chased the bus down the block as it drove away.
For many, the exchange is only the beginning of deep, lasting friendships. The choristers and orchestra members have plans to text on WhatsApp, share memories and stories on Facebook, and see each other over Skype calls. Their connection will only deepen with time and grow stronger over distance.
